Have you ever encountered a webform that’s so long you don’t fill it out? Don't worry, you're not alone. According to a Formstack report, contact forms should include no more than four fields per form. Adding additional fields reduces the likelihood a lead will fill out your form and give you their information.
To help keep your forms clean and your data collection process easy, you can easily add progressive fields to your SharpSpring forms. Progressive fields will only display if the information for the specific field is unknown. If you already have information for the lead, the field will be replaced with a field you have yet to collect.
The following user roles can add progressive fields to SharpSpring forms:
- Marketing Managers
IMPORTANT: You must have active tracking code on your website for progressive forms to work.
Use the following steps to add progressive fields to a SharpSpring form.
Step One: On the toolbar, hover over Content then on the drop-down, click Forms.
Step Two: Create or edit any SharpSpring form.
Step Three: On the Fields tab, add the system or custom field that will be included on the form.
Step Four: Fields above the Progressive Profiling Fields section will display the first time a lead views and submits the form. Fields below the Progressive Profiling Fields section are queued for display each additional time the lead views the form.
Once the lead submits the information for a specific field, it will be replaced by the next queued field when the visitor views the form in the future.
This behavior will continue until the point at which the lead has provided information for all of the form fields. At this time, the form will then display the fields included above the Progressive Profiling Fields section.
TIP! You can choose to have specific fields set to always display by checking the always show checkbox on each field.
Step Six: Save your form and place your embed code on your website. When a visitor views your form, only fields without a value will now display.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Can I add forms with progressive fields to SharpSpring landing pages?
A. Not at this time. The form needs to be rendered within an iframe for the progressive nature of the fields to work.
Q. Can I add the "How Did You Hear About Us" question to my progressive fields?
A. The "How Did You Hear About Us" question can be added to progressive forms by clicking the checkbox next to "Ask "How Did You Hear About Us". If this field is added to a form using progressive fields, it will always display.
Q. How do required fields work when a form has progressive fields?
A. Any field that is flagged to be required will only be required when that field displays to the visitor. Required fields that have yet to display to the visitor will not prevent the form from submitting.
