SharpSpring provides users with the option to manually create a single lead, or to manually import a list of leads. This article will show you how to begin tracking the website activity from these leads that have been manually added to the platform.
The following video will provide you with an overview of how to track manually added leads in SharpSpring. However, if you prefer, a written step-by-step guide is available below the video for your convenience.
Manually Adding a Lead (or Leads)
Our first step will be to manually add the leads into the platform. If you need a refresher on how to perform this task, you can refer to the support article here that details the process.
Tracking the Lead in SharpSpring
Now that our lead or leads have been added to the system, we can begin setting up tracking. As a note, while the system does allow the creation of leads with the minimum of "First Name" and "Last Name" fields, we will need the email address of the lead in order to set up tracking, so always add this field when it is available
We set up the tracking for these manually added leads by sending the leads an email from SharpSpring, which must include one or more links that when clicked, will direct the lead to part of our website where we have put tracking code. If there is no tracking code on the page where the link directs, tracking will not be set up. For more information on properly setting up your tracking code, refer the article here.
Once we have created an email that includes links to our site, we will then send this email to our manually added leads. This will differ depending if we are sending to a single (1) lead or a group of leads.
Tracking a Single Lead
For a single lead, we will be sending an email directly to the lead using the one-off send function within the Contact Manager. You can do so by clicking on the options tab in the upper right hand corner, and selecting (Send Smart email) or alternatively click the mail icon (<img" src="/hc/article_attachments/115002110568/564382" alt="" />) next to the lead’s email address.
Select your email with the links to your site, and then send when you ready. When the lead clicks on the link in the email and is then directed to your site with the tracking code, the lead will now be a tracked lead within SharpSpring!
Tracking a Group of Leads
For a group of leads that have been manually imported, we follow the same process for a single lead. That is, we need to send an email to the list that contains links which direct to a page of our site where we have set up tracking code.
We will start by finding the list of the manually imported leads. Once we have the list in front of us, we then can send our email to the group. To do so, we click on the options gear in the upper right hand corner and select "Send Email to List".
We then grab the email with the links to our site, and send when ready. All of the leads on the list who click the link and land on our site will now be tracked leads in the system!
