One of the most important steps in marketing automation is getting your leads tracked in Lead Gen & CRM. Once a lead is tracked, you can see when they do certain things—such as when they open an email, click a link in that email, visit a page on your site, fill out a form, or view a media asset.
Tracking leads is a crucial step in knowing your audience and customizing content based on their behavior. Lead Gen & CRM provides users with the option to track the website activity from leads that have been manually added to the platform.

Regarding Tracking
A lead can become tracked in one of these ways:
- When a lead fills out a form on your tracked website. A lead will be tracked when they fill out a form on your website that has tracking code. This form must be a Lead Gen & CRM form, or a native/third-party form that has been integrated with our tracking script.
- When a lead interacts with your chatbots. A lead will be tracked when they enter information in order to respond to a chatbot. The conversation event information is collected and will be part of the visitor's Life of the Lead information.
- When a lead clicks a link in an email that goes to your tracked website, a meeting link, or a Lead Gen & CRM landing page. A lead will be tracked if they click a link in your Lead Gen & CRM email that takes them to your website that has tracking code, to a meeting link, or to a Lead Gen & CRM landing page. The links within the message are unique to the recipient when the email is sent from Lead Gen & CRM. Site tracking is established when a lead clicks these unique links and visits a page with Lead Gen & CRM tracking code.
- When a lead interacts with your Shopping Cart or API. A link will be tracked if the lead creates a transaction from your shopping cart platform that has tracking code OR you pass a TrackingID through the API. This will require a developer, as both the API and shopping cart involve code knowledge.
A Lead Gen & CRM tracking code needs to be placed on every page you would like tracked. You will need to have a separate code for each site that you use, including a new code for each subdomain. For the tracking code to be effective, the lead also must have cookies enabled in their browser. Most leads do, but some turn it off by personal preference or via a company profile.
In addition, tracked leads will appear in VisitorID email results. These results are emailed to you at a set rate of time. Refer to Configuring Daily VisitorID Results for information on how to set which user roles receive VisitorID emails and how to configure sending settings.
