If you are already tracking a site in SharpSpring, when you attempt to enable that site as a landing page site you will see the following message:
In order to begin building landing pages, you will need to create a subdomain. In the below example, bryantobin.com is currently being tracked in an instance of SharpSpring, so the subdomain blog.bryantobin.com was created to be the landing page site.
Example subdomains: connect, go, social, learn, blog, digital, events
Once your subdomain is created, you simply put that value into the page configuration for the landing page tool. Make sure the checkbox "Uses landing page builder" is checked.
Once our subdomain is in place, we can begin creating landing pages in SharpSpring.
Note: Every landing page will have a default .pages.services attached to the end of the subdomain.
You will therefore need to add a CNAME record to your tracked site in order to get rid of the .pages.services within the URL. You MUST be able to log in to where your site’s domain is registered. For example, if you bought your domain through GoDaddy, you must have full access (admin username/password) to GoDaddy to create the CNAME record.
- For example, if your tracked site is www.domain.com and you’ve set up the subdomain http://subdomain.domain.com, then your landing pages will have automatically have the SharpSpring URL http://subdomain.domain.com.pages.services
Adding/Editing a CNAME Record
Step One: Log in to your domain host (ie GoDaddy, NameCheap, BlueHost, etc)
Step Two: Locate domain settings, CNAME settings, or DNS management -- sometimes labeled as Manage Domains or DNS Records (may be under advanced settings)
Step Three: Navigate to where you are able you to add CNAME records/alias and navigate to where you can Add CNAME record
Step Four: Enter your subdomain as the host or alias, and the SharpSpring URL as the value destination or points to link
|Value Destination/Points To:
In the example below, the tracked site in SharpSpring is www.bryantobin.com and we have created learn.bryantobin.com as the subdomain. Here, we have created a CNAME record in GoDaddy where learn.bryantobin.com points to Learn.bryantobin.com.pages.services.
That’s it! All you have to do is locate CNAME settings in your domain host, add a CNAME record where your subdomain points to the SharpSpring link, and you’re good to go!
